F.A.Q.'s

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TIB AND OTHER SCHOOLS?
TIB is unique from other schools because our programs are service focused. We go a step beyond and teach you how to maximize your tips through offering great service, as well as educating you on all the fundamentals of bartending.

We are the only bartender training school that include full tasting modules in all alcoholic beverage categories including spirits, wines, beers and cocktails. We also use real ingredients such as ice, bar juice and garnishing, to give you the real effect when practicing and perfecting your skills. We encourage all our potential students to visit our facility to see what we have to offer. Simply drop by the school during our business hours or give us a call to get more details.

WHAT FACTORS SHOULD I CONSIDER WHEN CHOOSING A BARTENDING SCHOOL?
The most important factor in choosing a bartending school should be the content of the specific programs and workshops, not necessarily the price or the fact that they advertise that you'll train in a club. Clubs make up less that 0.1% of the industry, and most students will never work in one.

Our programs and workshops are designed to prepare students to work in all types of establishments including bars, restaurants, pubs, lounges, clubs and any other type of licensed facility.

HOW MUCH CAN A BARTENDER MAKE IN A SHIFT?
A bartender can earn anywhere from $150 to $500 per night or more. There are many factors that dictate how much you can make, for example, establishment type, type of quests, average cost of drinks sold and much more.

DO YOU OFFER ANY CRASH COURSES? CAN I COMPLETE ANY OF YOUR COURSES QUICKER?
We do have an accelerated schedule so you can complete the Introduction to Bartending & Mixology program in half the time. All programs and workshops must be completed within the schedules in which they are offered. They are designed specifically with time in between each class to allow you to study the material you've learned that week. Also, by limiting your classes to one or two per week, interruption to your current schedule is minimized.

DO I NEED MY "BARTENDING LICENCE" TO WORK IN THE INDUSTRY?

Although it is not mandatory to have a bartending certification to serve, more and more establishments and employers require you to have this "bartending certification" or "bartending license" in order to be considered for employment.

WHAT IS THE SMART SERVE CERTIFICATION PROGRAM?

Smart Serve is an alcohol awareness program that you must have to legally work in Ontario. It is the only training program currently available in Ontario. Legally, all bartenders, servers, managers and security staff must hold Smart Serve certificates. Go to Smart Serve Certification to get more info.

HOW CAN I REGISTER?
There are many ways to register for our programs of workshops. You can register on-line through the register link of our web site, over the phone by talking to one of our staff members, or by coming into the school in person.

DO I NEED TO PAY FOR MY ENROLLMENT BEFORE I START, OR CAN I JUST SHOW UP THE FIRST DAY?
In order to confirm your spot into any one of our classes, we must receive your payment in advance. We do have payment plans available. Please contact our office to get further details.

WHAT METHODS OF PAYMENT DO YOU ACCEPT?
We accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express through our secure on-line payment option, or if you wish, you can pay with your credit card over the phone or in person. We also offer the NEW INTERAC ONLINE PAYMENT SYSTEM, which allows you to use your debit card to pay for your enrollment online. It’s available to ROYAL, TD CANADA TRUST, SCOTIA AND BMO debit card holders.

You can also send in a payment by Cheque or Money Order or come into the school and pay in person by debit or cash.

ARE THERE ANY ADDITIONAL CHARGES (I.E.: BOOKS, MATERIALS, ETC.)?
All training materials are included in the cost of each specific course or workshop. The Bartender Certification program requires you to download and print the manual, which is at no cost to you. A link will be provided upon signup which will allow you to do so, otherwise, you can purchase a bound copy at the school on your first day. You will also be required to bring your own wine opener for the wine training module.

HOW OLD DO YOU HAVE TO BE TO LEGALLY SERVE IN ONTARIO OR TAKE ANY OF YOUR COURSES OR WORKSHOPS?
If you are 18 or older, you can take our some of our programs and workshops, as you must be 18 years of age or older to legally serve in Ontario. 19 is simply the drinking age. Other courses and workshops that include tasting and sampling require you to be of legal drinking age in Ontario.

DO I HAVE TO COME ON THE SAME DAY EVERY WEEK, ONCE I HAVE BOOKED A SPECIFIC CLASS?

Yes, you must attend on your specific scheduled day(s) only.

IF I MISS A CLASS, CAN I MAKE IT UP?
If there is space available in another program date or class, we will place you in that class at no charge to you.

ARE THERE ANY PRE-REQUISITES TO SIGN UP?
DO YOU NEED A HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA?

Our programs and workshops do not require any pre-requisites.
